Fruits of Orelha de Negro (Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong) were collected at different intervals during the period of seed maturation. Dry weight of 50 seeds, moisture content and germination percentage of seeds were evaluated at the intervals, using cut and uncut seeds. It was observed during the period of maturation, a considerable reduction in seed moisture content, and that, below 18,98 percent of moisture, the percentage of germination decreased especially when uncut seeds were used. This reduction of germination is probably due to an increase in the hardness of the seeds.
