GERMINATION OF VARIOUS NATIVE CERRADO ARBOREAL SPECIES

The germination of seeds of eight tree-species collected from the Centro de Pesquisa Agropecuária dos Cerrados and Padre Bernardo areas was evaluated. The species studied were Astronium urundeuva (Fr. All), Engl., Astronium faxinifolium Schott, Bombax tomentosum St. Hill, Bombax martianum K. Sch., Kielmeyera coriacea (Spr.) Mart, Piptadenia falcata Benth, Pterodon pubescens Benth e Qualea grandiflora Mart. The germination test began the day after collection and ended fourteen days later. K. coriacea and Q. grandiflora were also tested after six-month storage period in a cloth bag at room temperature. All species germinated rapidly, although for some of them the germination rate was not high.
