SOYBEAN SEED STORABILITY PREDICTION BY THE ACCELERATED AGING TEST

ROBERTO USBERTI

Soybean seed storability results were obtained through standard germination and accelerated aging tests. The seeds used had been maintained under open storage conditions. Every two months seed moisture content, vigor and standard germination were checked throughout the end of the experiment (about 10 months). Accelerated aging test was performed under 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 hours, at 43°C ± 0,5 and 100% relative humidity. Initial germination percentage was uneffective to predict soybean seed lot storability. Regression analysis showed tht accelerated aging results after 12, 24 and 48 hours were highly and significantly correlated with those of standard germination after 2, 4 and 6-8-10 month storage periods, respectively. From these results regression equations, which are able to predict seed lot storability accurately, have been developed.
