EFFECTS OF LOIL FERTIL ITY ON THE PRODUCTION, GERMINATION AND VIGOR OF CORN SEED

SILVIO MOURE CÍCERO FRANCISCO FERRAZ DE TOLEDO HUMBERTO DE CAMPOS

The objectives of the present work, carried out from 1976 to 1979, was to study the effects of two soil fertility levels on the production, germination and vigor of corn cultivars seeds. The field test was carried out in soil that showed two distinct fertility levels. In the soil with the higher fertility, a mineral fertilization containing N, P, K, B, Cu, Mo and Zn was aplied according to the corn crop requirements and the soil chemical properties. In the soil with lhe lower fertility any mineral fertilization was made. With the harvested seeds, germination and vigor tests were carried out in two different times. With the analysis of data and the interpretation of the results it was verified that although the higher soil fertility level had gave higher production, the same did not occur in relation to germination and vigor, once the two soil fertility levels had the same behavior in relation to these characteristics; by the other hand, in general, the behavior among the twelve cultivars was similar in the studied characteristics.
