Copaifera langsdorffü SEED GERMINATION FROM FRUITS WITH DIFFERENT DEGREESOF MATURATION.

information was sought on germination of "copaiba" seeds. Fruits and seedswere classified according to color, and seeds were germinated. Seeds from green fruits showed a better germination percentage and coefficient of velocity of germina-tion from more mature fruits; but this difference was not signifïcant. The oníy significant difference was between seeds coilected from the ground and from green fruits. There was no significant difference for coefficient of velocity of germination between seeds with differents degrees of maturation. It can be con-cluded that seeds should be coilected as soon as they begin failing from the trees; this indicates that the embrios are aiready fülly developed, although some of the fruits may yet be green colored. This procedure will yield seeds with a higher percentage of germination.
