LIMITING FACTORS ASSOCIATED TO PASTURE FORMATION IN TROPICAL BRAZIL

ADIBE JORGE ROSTON

Even though it is known that cattie production in Tropical Brazil is based upon grass pastures, the specific technical phases for the establishment of pastures take into account the combination of grasses and legumes besides selection of the site, soil preparation, correction of acidity and fertility, the adequate use of seeds and of judicious first utilization of the forage in the pasture. The limiting factors were considered in the decision making phase as well as in the technical stages of pasture establishment phase, giving importance not only to the technical but also to the social and economical factors. Literature informations based upon well arranged data and maps preceded the suggestions to overcome some technical details and showed social and economical problems that determine the limitation to the decsion to establish pasture. It is concluded that the fundamental principles involved in pasture establishment are well defined existing a reasonable number of information available lacking only specific and regional details.
