THE USE OF STATISTICS IN SEED RESEARCH

FRANCISCO FERRAZ DE TOLEDO

Modern statistics provides research workers with an additional tool to evaluate their results. It is a relatively new subject, a product of lhe twentieth century. For the scientist, particularly the biological scientist, statistics began in 1925 when the book Statistical Methods for Research Workers was first published. According to what we have observed, this knowledge is being largely applied in agricultural science; within this science the seed technology branch is having a significant growth in the recent years in Brazil. As such we decided to write a paper about the usage of statistcs on seed research, embracing: a) the statistics and the scientific methods, b) experimental planning, and c) statistical designs for seed research.
