CORN AND SORGHUM SEED RESEARCH IN BRAZIL

RONALDO DE OLIVEIRA FELDMANN

The percentage of improved corn seed in Brazil is around 51%. In sorghum, the seed available is still insuficient to meet the needs. Some aspects of corn and sorghum seed production present problems which need specific research attention, among which are deterioration in the field, mechanical damage at harvest, drying, aeration, processing, storage, analysis and seed quality. Seed research projects, programed and/or underway at the Com and Sorghum National Research Center and at other institutions linked to the Cooperative Agricultural Research System coordinated by EMBRAPA, are listed.
