SOYBEAN NATIONAL RESEARCH PROGRAM. SEEDS
LUIZ A. G. PEREIRA E MILTON P. DA COSTA
The research guidelines presented in this paper were selected by experts in soybean seed technology in several meetings held at different locations. It has been observed that the low physiological quality of soybean seeds, produced in diferent areas all over Brazil, is due to many factors, such a rainfall, high temperature and relative humidity fluctuations after physiological maturity. These factors are being considered in soybean seed quality evaluations, now in progress, in the State of Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul. On the other hand, the research related to seed treatment is more advanced and preliminary results are shown. Basically, results indicate that harvesting could be made when seed moisture content is about 15 to 17%, in those areas where weather conditions are severe at harvesting. The seed used in this research was analysed by severa! methods: seed germination test, rapid aging test, seedling legth test and tetrazolium test.
