Seed research developed by EMBRAPA in the northern region of Brazil is described. The seed problems in the region concerning rice, Braziliannuts, cowpeas, guaraná, jute, malva and corn are briefly analysed. A list of seed research projects underway with these species, as well as results already obtained, is presented.
