RICE SEED PURIFICATION
NÔRIS REGINA DE ALMEIDA VIEIRA, MARLENE SILVA FREIRE, ADELSON DE BARROS FREIRE E JAIME ROBERTO FONSECA
One of the highest priorities in almost all of the Brazilian states and territories is providing farmers with enough seed of high quality. Seed multiplication and purification have been practiced at the National Rice and Bean Research Center (CNPAF, EMBRAPA) since 1975. Genetic purification was carried out using mass selection as a short term solution. At the same time a puré line selection was performed. Ten thousand and two hundred kilograms of seed were obtained from mass selection and 775kg from pure line selection, of the varieties IAC 25, IAC 47, IAC I246, IAC 5544, Fernandes, Dourado Precoce, Pratão Precoce, Iguape Redondo and Amarelão. This seed will be transfered to EMBRAPA's Foundation Seed Production Service (SPSB).
