The need for a seed research coordination in Brasil is discussed, in order to concentrate the specialized researchers efforts and optimize the use of the available infraestructure, in the solution of the technological problems which are limiting the effectiveness and the expansion of the state seed programs. The regional differences and the shortage of technical information on seeds for tropical and sub-tropical conditions are emphasized. Lines which could be followed in the establishment of coordinated seed research effort at national level, are listed
