SEED CONTAINER INFLUENCE ON COTTONSEED ACCELERATED AGING TEST

ROBERTO USBERTI

Several seed containers have been tested as to their influence on cottonseed vigor results, after accelerated aging tests. Open gerbox, gerbox with lid and tulle bags were utilized in the first experiment while open gerbox, tulle bags and plastic sieves were used in the second experiment. Accelerated aging tests were carried out for 96 hours, at 43oC ± 0,5 and 100% relative humidity. Statistically different seed vigor results were recorded among treatments from the same seed sample, placed in different seed containers. Open gerbox and tulle bag results were statistically similar but lower than those achieved with gerbox with lid treatment, in the first experiment. All seed container treatments did not produce significant difterences in seed vigor results in the second experiment. Based upon those data, a precise indication of the kind of seed container used on accelerated aging tests is suggested aiming at easing result comparisons of experiments using different species.
