INFLUENCE OF CULTIVARS, SPACINGS AND LOCALITIES ON THE QUALITY OF BEAN SEEDS

In order to evaluate the quality of bean seeds of the cultivar Carioca, Aroana, and Pirata, produced in Campinas, Mococa, Taguaí, and Itaí, under three different spacings, i.e., 40 x 20cm, 50 x 20cm. and 60 x 20cm laboratory tests were performed. Purity analysis results were very good for all samples, showing lower values for the seeds produced in Taguaí. Weight per litre showed no difference for seeds produced under the three spacings, but seeds produced in Mococa and belonging to the cultivar Pirata showed higher results. Germination and vigor tests results showed significant interactions for spacing x locality, and spacing x cultivar. The interaction locality x cultivar was also highly significant. However, isolating Taguaí, it was possible to detect that seeds produced in that locality were those that showed the lowest germination and vigor, regardless the cultivars or the spacings. It was possible to define that locality was the factor that more evidentiy affected the quality of bean seeds produced in the State of São Paulo, Brazil.
