FRUIT POSITION ON THE OKRA PLANT ANO ITS INFLUENCE ON SEED QUALITY

ALBERTO LEANDRO PEREIRA

To study the influence of the okra plant fruit position on seed quality, fruits were harvested from several positions on the plant. The selection ?Piranema?, of cv. ?Chifre de Veado? was used. The fruit positions evaluated were: from the soil surface up to 60cm above, between 60 and 90cm, between 90 and 120cm, between 120 and 150cm, and from the lateral branches. Seed quality was evaluated through physical, viability and vigor tests. Results showed significant differences for the several positions. Seed harvested from fruits on positions between 60 and 90cm and 90 and 120cm above soil surface had the highest germination percentage.
