EFFECTS OF SEED MOISTURE CONTENT, KIND OF PACKAGE AND STORAGE PERIOD, ON THE PHYSIOLOGICAL QUALITY OF SOYBEAN SEED

ADEMIR DOS S. AMARAL E LEOPOLDO M. BAUDET

Soybean seeds with two initial moisture contents in three different kinds of packages were stored under the environmental conditions of Pelotas, RS, during a period of eight months (april to december, 1982). Each month, seed moisture content and physiological quality were evaluated. Germination, accelerated aging and initial population tests, were used to evaluate seed quality. There were no differences between 11.4% and 13.4% initial seed moisture content and among the fiber - ?juta?, polyethylene, and multi-foil paper bags (4 sheets). However, after five months of open storage, soybean seeds were significantly affected, showing reduction in vigour, although the germination was high until the end of storage period.
