RESEACH TOPICS CONDUCTED IN SEED PATHOLOGY IN BRAZIL

Before 1970, most of research work on Seed Pathology in Brazil were limited to control of seed-borne diseases by seed treatment with fungicides. By 1970?S great development on Seed Pathology area was verifyied in Brazil. lt was achieved by the opportunity of brasilian researches having training abroad, in specialized centers of Seed Pathology and also in intensive courses given ín Brazil. Great number of research work on Seed Pathology was carried out in the last ten years in Brazil in the following research línes: survey of seed-borne fungi, evaluatíon of methods for seed health testing, studies on damage and losses due to seed-borne pathogens; control of diseases by seed treatment with fungicides, selection of cultivars resistent to seed-borne infection, spraying of seed production field and use of cultural techníques for production of health seeds.
