In Brazil, the seed is the main source of dissemination of most of the bean diseases in the fields. Principal pathogens associated with the bean seed are: Alternaria sp., Colletotrichum lindemuthianum (Sacc & Magn) Scrib., Fusarium oxysporum Schlecht, Fusarium solani (Mart.) Sacc., Fusarium sp., Isariopsis griseola Sacc., Macrophomina phaseolina (Tassi) Goid, Phomopsis sp., Rhizoctonia solane Huhn, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Barry, Sclerotim rolfsii Sacc., Pseudomonas syringae pv. tabaci, Xanthomonas phaseoli, and the common bean mosaic. The identification of most of these pathogens can be done during the routine laboratory tests.
