SEED MATURATION OF Myroxylon balsamum (L.) HARMS

Fruits of Myroxylon balsamum (L.) Harms, M. peruiferum L. f. were weekley harvested at Jaboticabal-SP, Brazil, from a flowering that took place on june 20/1981 - The fruits attained maximum size after 10 weeks, with a moisture content of fruits and seeds superior to 80%. Seed Maximum dry matter weight was reached 15 weeks after flowering. Harvesting could be started 17 weeks after flowering, when seeds reach physiological maturity. At this time, the fruits/seeds show a yellow colour and 43% moisture content. After the next week, the fruits/seeds showed a brown colour, wrinkled, squashed and moisture content between 16 and 22%. Also at this stage the harvesting should be made rapidly, because the fruits were ready to fall and be dispersed by the wind.
