The experiment was developed at the FCAV-UNESP - Campus de Jaboticabal, with the main objective to determine the effect of sowing dates on the pigeon pea and lablab seed production and quality. The pigeon cv. FAJ-1 was sowing in four differentes sowing dates, spaced of one month, from october to january. For the lablab cv. Highworth and for the lablab cv. Rongai three differentes sowing dates, like the one?s except december. To each date it were used three field repetitions and to each one of these, four laboratory repetitions. Seed were produced in agricultural year 83/84. After harvesting they were stored in a dry chamber. Production and physiological quality of the seeds analysed through the 100 seeds weight, germination test and the vigour was evaluated by the speed of emergence index, shoot lenght, primary root lenght and seedling dry weight. According to the data, it was obtained the following conclusions: a) sowing date affected seed production of pigeon and lablab; b) maximum seed production of pigeon pea was get in december, and for the lablab in january; c) sowing date influenced seed germination for pigeon with best results in december and january; d) lablab seed showed higher vigor than pigeon pea.
