EFFECT OF SED DRYING OF THE PALM Euterpe edulis MART. ON GERMINATION AND STORAGE
MAIKE H. DE QUEIROZ E MARIA DOLORES TIGRE DE H. CAVALCANTE
ln their stage of piysiologicai maturity the seeds of the palm Euterpe edulis Mart. present high level of umidity which makes its storage for different reasons rather difficult. The loss of its germinative power is very fast. Drying process of Euterpe edulis Mart. seeds has been carried until they have reached different levels of umidity. Germination tests were carried both immediateiy after the drying process and after 5 month storage at ± 3oC. The drying process up to the level of 42,6% - 38,6% has increased the percentage of germination and reduced the duration of germination making it more homogeneous. The drying process up to the level of 42,6% favoured the conservation of the germinative power of the storaged seeds. At higher and lower levels of umidity of the seeds
