EVALUATION OF QUALITY OF SOYBEAN SEED (Glycine max (L.) Merril): COMPARISION OF FOUNDATION SEED, FISCALIZED SEED (COMMERCIALSEED) AND FARMER GRAIN CLASSES
JOSE NEUMAR FRANCELINO E FLAVIO POPINIGIS
Forty-four lots of IAC-8 and eighty-four of Cristalina soybean cultivars of foundatíon seed, fiscalized seed (commercial seed) and farmer grain used as seed were evaluated. Moisture content, purity, germination, TZ potencial, and level of damage were determined in laboratory. Varietal purity and yield were evaluated in the field. The laboratory tests identified low physiological quality of seeds in all lots. The Cristalina cultivar was out of varietal purity standard in the region of the Distrito Federal for foundation and fiscalized classes; some grain lots used by farmers for seeding porposes had high quality equivalent to that of fiscalized and basic seed classes; the yield of fleld planted with seed tested was lower than normal production; the total off-type plants in flowering and preharvest inspection, not often observerd in the fiscalized class system, may result in field aproved out of genetic purity standards.
