The objective of this research was to study the temperature effect on the seed germination of ?uva japonesa? (Hovenia dulcis) and biribá (Rollinea mucosa). Two experiments were carried out at the Seed Laboratory of the Agriculture College ?Campus? of Jaboticabal (São Paulo State) - UNESP. In the first one of the specie ?uva japonesa? it were used 5 germination temperatures (10oC, 20oC, 30oC, 35oC e 40oC), and 8 replications of 50 seeds. In the second one was used the specie of ?biribá? with 3 temperatures (environmental conditions, 30oC e 40oC), with different numbers of seeds per treatments due to few seed availability. The seedling evaluations was done according to the Brazilian Rules for Seed Analysis. From the obtained results can be concluded: a) at 40oC there was no germination for both species; b) The best germination temperature for the ?uva japonesa? was approxímately 30oC; c) The best temperature range for the ?biribá? seed germination was at environmental conditions (average 17oC minimum and 28,5oC maximum), with a germination of 92%.
