STORAGE OF PASSION FRUIT SEEDS

JOÃO NAKAGAWA, CLÁUDIO CAVARIANI, WEBER ANTÔNIO NEVES DO AMARAL

- Seeds of passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarpa Deg.) were stored during 57 months in three different conditions: natural environment of laboratory (packed in paper bag) and cool chamber (packed in paper bag) and cool chamber (packed in polyethilene bag). The water content and the germination percentage of these seeds were evaluated monthly. The percentage of germination decreased with the storage in all conditions, but by different way. The seeds stored in coo! chamber and in dry chamber presented nearly 60% and 50% of germination, respectively, at the end of the study. The natural environment of laboratory was the worst condition to seed preservation, thus all seeds presented zero percentage of germination after 32 months of storage.
