The influence of four type of sowing covering on emergence and initial growth of algaroba (Prosopis juliflora (SW) DC) seedlings was studied in the seed-bed. The sowing covering were: rice seed straw, sawtimber, dry grass and washed sand. The results obtained on emergence and nursery diameter growth did not present significant results. In the 120th day after sowing, the seedlings that received dry grass showed the lowest height, although very near of the results obtained used rice seed straw. Therefore, it is recommend to use sowing covering with dry grass to production of algaroba seedlings.
