This research was carried out to reavaluate some methods to overcome seed dormancy in Prosopis juliflora (SW) DC. Samples from International Prosopis Association (IPA), situated in Recife (PE), were submited to seven tretatments to determine which ones were more efficient to cease dormancy. So, were adopted manual scarifying, mechanic scarifiying and chemical scarifying with immersion of seeds in H2SO4 (98%) during 4, 7, 10, 13 and 16 minutes respectively. The main data collected were percentage of seed germination, index of germination velocity and abnormal seedling incidence. Both scarifying groups, chemical and physical, showed to increase all studied parameters. Concerning chemical scarifying the greatment of immersion in H2SO4 (98%) during 7 minutes seemed to be as practicable as the 10 minutes usually adopted.
