SEED BEHAVIOUR OF Cedrela angustifolia S. ET. MOC. DURING STORAGE

FATIMA C. MÁRQUEZ PIÑA-RODRIGUES E RENATO MORAES DE JESUS

Seed storage research for comercial forest species is important mainly to the ones that are with genetic resources in dangerous, like cedro-rosa (Cedrela angustifolia S. Et. Moc.). Seeds collected at Reserva Florestal do Vale do Rio Doce were stored under open storage conditions (temperature and humidity variable) and cold-dry storage (10°C and 65%). Differents containers were tested: (a) permeables (cotton, kraft paper and wood box), (b) semi-permeable (plastic bag). Seeds stored at cold-dry situation conserved viability for up 3 years, although with germination (23%) lower than initial (71%), at all containers tested. Seeds can be stored under open condition during 75 days in permeable containers. Seasonal trends on seed viability were observed at cold-dry storage, probably associated with endogenous rhythms.
