A greenhouse study was conducted to determine effects of increasing levels of soil applied vinasse on germination and vigour of corn (Zea mays L.) seeds. Vinasse was applied at levels corresponding to 0, 100, 200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000m3/ha, it was applied on ?Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo distrófico? soil. In order to avoid the effect of organic matter present on the surface layer of the soil, the samples of soil used were taken from the 20cm depth, homogenized in a tray and incubated with vinasse for a 30 days period. The pH tends to increase with the application of increasing levels of vinasse. The results showed also a decrease on speed emergence with the increase of the applied levels without affecting the percentage of total germination. There was an increase on fresh watter and dry weight of corn shoot with application of increasing levels of vinasse.
