AUGUSTO CÉSAR PEREIRA GOULART E FERNANDO DE ASSIS PAIVA

Samples of wheat seeds of several cuitivars, from seven counties (Dourados, Itaporã, Ponta Porã, Rio Brilhante, Maracaju, Amambai and Aral Moreira) were analysed using the blotter test, to determine the fungi incidence in wheat seeds produced in Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil, during 1990 and 1991. Twenty-eight genera of fungi were detected in 1990 (334 samples) and twenty-four in 1991 (498 samples). In both years, Helminthosporium sativum was the most prevalent fungus, detected in 100% of the analysed samples. In average, the incidence level of this pathogen was 32,5%. Pyricularia oryzae was registered in 12% of the analysed samples, at relatively low levels. The storage fungi (Aspergillus spp. and Penicillium spp.) were detected at relatively high levels.
