FLAME DELINTING OF THE COTTON SEED (Gossypium hirsutum L.)
VICENTE DE PAULA QUEIROGA, JOSÉ ERNESTO SOUTO BEZERRA E LEONARDO JOSÉ CORREIA
The research had as main objective to study the efficiency of the rnethod of flame delinting, using different fire intensities in relation to seeds of upland cotton with lint. The work was conducted in 1990, in the Laboratory of seeds of the CNPA/EMBRAPA, Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brazil. Five replicates of each treatment were arranged in a factorial experiment in the completely randomized design, with four factors ((soft fire, double fire, triple fire and seeds with lint (control)) at five leveIs (period of storage: before, zero, one, two and three months). Parameters that were measured: germination (%), seedling groing (cm), seed moisture (%) and weigh of 100 seeds (g). Based in the results obtained, it was concluded that the flaming with soft fire increased the germination and vigor of the seeds, while the delinting with double and triple fire decreased the values of these two parameters as compared to seeds with lint (control)
