EVALUATION OF METHODS TO BREAK TRUE POTATO SEED DORMANCY
ALESSANDRO DE L.E. BRACCINI, PAUL WATTS E HOWARD C. LEE
True potato seed, cv. Cara, from five treatrnents: large berries blight infested, large berries, small berries, 1 year and 2 years stored seeds, were submitted to three methods to break dormancy: 5 days soak, 10 days soak and 24 hours imersion in giberellic acid 3 (GA3) 1.000ppm concentration and untreated seeds put immediately on germination test. The 24 hours imersion in giberellic acid was the most effective method to break true potato seed dormancy. True potato seed storage for 1 year in low temperature conditions, around 4°C, can naturally loose secd dorrnancy. The stage of development of true potato seed may influence the seed dormancy.
