SEED GERMINATION OF Virola surinamensis (ROL.) WARB. (MYRISTICACEAE) AND Guarea guidonia (L.) SLEUMER (MELIACEAE)

MÓNICA AIRES CARDOSO, ROZANE DA CUNHA E TÂNIA SAMPAIO PEREIRA

The native species selected for this work are important for wood extraction and for their medicinal properties. It was conducted studies in the germination morphology and evaluated temperatures (20-30°C and 30°C) and substrate (paper towel and vermiculite), for germination test. Morphological aspects of normal seedling were described and the period to achieve radicle protrusion and to complete germination were the best conditions for seed germination of Virola surinamensis. The seeds of Guarea guidonia presented the highest germination values in 30°C, though there were no differences between the two substrates
