GERMINATION, STORAGE AND FUNGICIDE TREATMENT OF RUBBER TREE (Hevea brasiliensis MUELL. ARG) SEEDS
ANICE GARCIA E ROBERVAL DAITON VIEIRA
Initially, studies were conducted on germination substrates (sand, dust saw, vermiculite, and paper and fabric rolls), and temperatures (25, 30, 30/dark, 35, 20-30°c and environmental temperature - laboratory). It was also studied the effect of seed storage (up to 5 months) in plastic bags and fungicide treatment (captan, benomyl, thiran). The seeds were placed, separately, in poliethilene bags, filled up, fastened and pierced with a little needle. To reach the objectives moisture content, standard and speed germination, and height and dry matter weight of seedlings were studied to evaluate physiological seed quality. Based on the results it can be concluded that: 1) the germination test should be run using sand or vermiculite as substrate; 2) under temperature varying from 30 to 35°C the final count of germination test should be done at the 20th day; 3) considering that rubber tree seed is recalcitrant the results up to five storage months allowed to conclude that the methodology used was efficient; being that the highest values were shown by seeds that didn?t suffer fungicide treatment.
