SANITARY AND PHYSIOLOGICAL QUALITY OF Avena strigosa SCHREB SEEDS FROM SOUTHERN RIO GRANDE DO SUL STATE

GILBERTO ANTONIO P. BEVILAQUA E CARLOS ROBERTO PIEROBOM

The objective of the present work was to evaluate the fungical incidence of fungi and its reflex on physiological quality of Avena strigosa seeds. Five seed lots from the south zone of Rio Grande do Sul state, including Pelotas, Piratini, Herval and Pedro Osório counties were analised. The seed sanity was evaluated in blotter test, in gerbox with 25 seeds and 16 replications, totalizing 400 seeds per lot, individually evaluated under stereomicroscope. The physiological quality was evaluated with tests of germination, first count germination, speed emergence index, seedling lenght and dry matter weight of seedling. Results indicate that: a) The most frequent seed-borne fungi in Avena strigosa seeds in southern Rio Grande do Sul were Helminthosporium sp., Phoma sp., Alternaria sp., Fusarium sp., Cladosporium sp., Epicoccum sp., Rhyzopus sp., Penicilium sp., Aspergillus sp., Nigrospora sp., Curvularia sp.; and b) only the genera Helminthosporium sp. and Phoma sp., which can cause seedling emergence damages, were found in high percentages.
