GERMINATION AND DORMANCY OF RASPBERRY SEEDS (Rubus idaeus L.)

JOCELY ANDREUCCETTI MAEDA E SONIA MARIA BONILHA MARCONDES COELHO

- The amount of seeds available in the raspberay (Rubus idaeus L.) plant is abundant since each conocarpous has an average of 59,5 drupes. Nevertheless, the germination of the seeds is almost null due to a high level of dormancy. The imbibition curves of scarified and unscarified seed showed that the low germination values were not caused by seed coat impermeability. Several treatments applyed alone such as heat pretreatment, sulphuric acid scarification, and stratification were unsuccessful in overcoming the raspberry seed dormancy. The best germination results were obtained when the treatments of scarification and stratification were combined.
