Studies aiming tu provide information about the morphology of seeds and young seedlings are very useful in the identification of the species facilitating the recognition at the initial stages of their development. With this objective, as welI as to provide better and easier ways for laboratory testes interpretations, illustrations and detailed description of fruits, seeds and seedlings os Luetzelburgia auriculata Duck (pau-serrote) and Pterogyne nitens Tul (madeira nova do brejo) were made. The description of fruits and seeds were related to the shape, size, surface, hilum (color, shape, positon, size), mycropile, and shape and position of embryo. For the morphological description of the seedlings, the seeds were germinated in wet germination paper rolls, in a seed germinator, at 27°C. AlI germination stages were observed and both normal and abnormal seedlings were described and illustrated.
