The presente study aimed to elaborate a more detailed description of the characteristics of seeds, seedlings and plants, of the different soybean cultivars recommended for the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná. Twenty six cultivars from the Soybean Germplasm Collection of EMBRAPA-CNPSo and foundation seed from seed program of different regions in every states werej used. The methods of evaluation employed for identification and description of dífferent cutivars in the laboratory were: seed coat luster and color, hilum color, size and shape of hilum, seed shape, 100 seeds weight, peroxidase activity test, hypocotyl length and color. In the greenhouse were assessed the flowers and plant pubescence. The results allowed the following conclusions: a) hlum shape, the peroxidase activity test and hypocotyl colors are parameters that should be used for determination of cultivars mixtures; b) the color or the shade of the soybean hilum of some cultivars may vary; c) the relationship between flower and hypocotyl color can be used as well as among flower and plant pubescence color with hilum color; d) the seed shape and weight, hilum size and hypocotyl Iength can not be used in cultivars routine identification test, due to their low confiability.
