PRISCILA FRATIN MEDINA, LUIZ FERNANDES RAZERA E CARLOS JORGE ROSSETTO
Peanut seeds (Cultivar Tatu) treated with insecticides, fungicide, or insecticides mixed with fungicide were stored during 15 months (1989-1991) in Campinas, São Paulo State, Brazil, to evaluale seed performance and Corcyra cephalonica Staint. infestation. The insecticides K-Obyol (deltamethrin + piperonyl butoxide), Malagran (malathion) and Actellic (pirimiphos-metil), and the fungicide captafol + quintozene were applied as seed-dressing. Peanut seeds infested by C. cephalonica were also placed in the warehouse to assure the seed infestation possibility. Standard germination, seed moisture content and insect infestation tests were conducted every month. The results showed that fungicide treatment before storage is a suitable procedure for maintaining peanut seeds germination by preventing C. cephalonica infestation. Seed trratment with the insecticide K-Obiol resulted in lower leveIs of seed infestation by C. cephalonica during long term storahr than the other insecticides: Malagran, Actellic or their mixture.
