PHYSICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTJCS OF CHERRY (Torresia acreana Ducke) SEEDS AND SEEDLINGS WHEN SEEDS WERE HARVEST FROM THE FLOOR OR IN THE FRUIT

JOÃO LOPES FIRMINO, DORA SUELY B. DOS SANTOS E BENEDITO G. DOS SANTOS FILHO

The objective of this work was to evaluate the physical and physiological quality of cherry seeds (Torresia acreana Ducke) from fruits of different maturation stages (green, black color and after dehiscence), two identify the ideal moment of harvest in order to obtair a greater quantity of viable seeds for each tree. It was evaluated the humidity, dry weight matter, size, germination, abnormal seedlings percentage and dead seeds, emergency, seedling height, root length and dry matter weight of seedling aerial part and root. The humidity, size, dry weight matter and color of the fruits showed to be good parameters to characterize the physiological maturation point of cherry seeds; the germination percentage was similar in the three stages of maturation; the best performance was observed in the seeds of black color fruits and after dehiscence; the emergency, seedling height, root length and dry matter weight of seedling aerial part and root showed to be efficients in the evaluation of the physiological quality of cherry seeds.
