BREAK SEED DORMANCY OF Mimosa bimucronata (DC.) O. Kuntze
LUCIANA LOPES FORTES RIBAS, LUIS CLÁUDIO FOSSATI E ANTONIO CARLOS NOGUEIRA
In order to obtain the acceleration and uniformity of the germination of maricá seeds (Mimosa bimucronata), the following methods were compared: immersion of seeds in sulfuric acid for 5 minutes, soaking in cold water for 24 hours, immersion in water at 80°C followed by natural cooling for 24 hours, immersion in water at 80°C for 1 and 5 minutes. AlI tests were performed in a Jacobsen type germinator at 30°C. The best results for dormancy break were obtained with the immersion of seeds in water at 80°C, followed by natural cooling for 24 hours (98,50%) and the immersion in sulfuric acid for 5 minutes (96,75%). The former treatment is recommended because it showed simpler performance and it has lower cost than sulfuric acid treatment.
