GERMINATION AND TETRAZOLIUM TESTS ON CARROT SEEDS STORED FOR DIFFERENT PERIODS

Carrot seeds lots (Daucus carota L.) cultivar Brasília were collected from the southem region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and evaluated as to moisture content and gemination. After 6, 18 and 30 months of storage at 15°C and 45% of R.U., seeds were evaluated by tetrazolium and gemination tests. The procedures adopted on tetrazolium test allowed the charactelization of embryo from viable and non-viable seeds in a shorter time than those recommended by the Rules. The 1st and 2st counting of germination test carried out at 4st and 7st day respectivately, and rolled towel as substract, allowed to classify lots on quality level at 4st day counting and decreasing also, the period for germination test.
