STORAGE CONDITIONS OF PALM HEAT (Euterpe edulis Mart.): EFFECTS OF TEMPERATURE AND SEED MOISTURE LEVELS
ANTONIO CARLOS S. ANDRADE, MARLENE MATOS MALAVASI E FRANCISCO ADEMAR DA COSTA
The objetive of this experiment was to evaluate the best storage conditions of Euterpe edulis Mart. seeds. During eight months, seeds were stored under combinations of seed moisture levels of 43%, 40%, 37% and 34% and temperatures of 15°C and 5°C. The best conservation results were attained under 15°C. Among seeds moisture levels, 43% and 40% yielded higher values for germination and vigor tests. However, the spontaneous germination within storage bags under 15°C and 43% seed moisture suggests the use of partial dehydration (40%) before seed storage to achieve better conservation of seeds.
