OSMOCONDITIONING OF Cedrela fissilis Vell.

SILVIA M. F. CARPI, CLÁUDIO J. BARBEDO E JÚLIO MARCOS FILHO

Three lots of seeds of Cedrela fissilis Vell,, colected in 1992, 1993 and 1994, stored without environmental control, were osmoconditioned in polyethylene glycoi solutions - PEG 6000 - (-0,2, -0,4 and -0,6MPa). The seeds were placed up two filter-papers and covered with one of them. The PEG solutions were prepared in a ratio of 1 : 2,5 (g of paper : ml of solution). The seeds were incubated for 96 hours, at 30°C, After the osmoconditioning, few seeds from each lot were dried at shadow, for 35 days. The response of seeds to saline conditions, compared to untreated seeds, was evaluated by humid weight and germination percentage of the seeds. Osmoconditioned seeds from the Iot of 1994 showed better values of percentage and speed of germination. Otherwise, the different saline solutions didn?t affect the seeds of the lots of 1992 and 1993. Drying osmocondiotioned seeds was harmful.
