HARVEST OF SOYBEAN SEEDS AT HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT. II - PHYSIOLOGICAL QUALITY

SILMAR TEICHERT PESKE E ELTON HAMER

Soybean seeds, cultivar FT-Cristalina, with 11.4 to 22.7% moisture content, were harvested using the following cylinder rotations: 450, 550 and 700rpm for 11.4% moisture content at harvest and 600, 700 and 800rpm for higher moistures. An 18mm opening width between concave and cylinder was used. The variables evaluated after six months of storage were: a) germination; b) viability by tetrazolium (categories 1-3, vigour, and 1-5 viability), c) accelerated ageing. According to the results obtained, seeds harvested at moisture contents between 13.0 and 18.0% showed germination above 90% and the highest percentages of viability and vigour. The cylinder rotation had effect on seeds physiological quality at the highest levels of moisture content. Seeds harvested at moisture contents up to 19.0% showed germination and vigour above 85 and 70%, respectively, since using right ajustment for cylinder rotation, leading to the conclusion that soybean seeds can be harvested with up to 19.0% moisture content.
