This work was carried out to investigate the effect of temperature and humidity on seed germination
of fedegoso (Senna macranthera) and leucena(Leucaena leucocephala). The seeds of fedegoso were submitted
to osmotic potential of -0,04; -0,08 and -0,1MPa and the seeds of leucena to -0,2 and -0.4MPa. The temperature
tested were 20, 25 and 30°C. The seeds were submitted to cycle of hydration for 24 or 48 hours followed by
dehydration until weight equal that without hydration. The temperature of 25°C was the best for seed germination
of fedegoso, and the 30°C was the best for leucena. The increase of the osmotic potential reduce the germination
for both species for all temperature tested. The seed of fedegoso did not germinate in osmotic potential above -
0,1MPa, in all temperature while the leucena seeds reduced the germination very drastically on fedegoso the
decrease was greater at 30°C on -0,1MPa. There were continuous decreased of germination of the leucena seeds
with the increase of the hydration time, followed by dehydration. The leucena seeds did not show sensibility to
hidration followed by dehydration during the time used in this experiment.
