QUICK TESTS FOR VIGOR EVALUATION OF SOYBEAN SEEDS
ALBERTO SERGIO DO REGO BARROS E JULIO MARCOS FILHO
The physiological quality of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) seeds evaluated by quick
tests of vigor, became an important tool on the quality control program for the seed producers due its
practiceness and effectiveness. Considering this point of view, this research was conducted at the Seed
Laboratory and Experimental Field of the Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz, of Universidade
de São Paulo, Brazil, with the main purpose to determine the effectiveness of some quick test for vigor
rating. The tetrazolium 1-3, eletrical conductivity and potassium leakage were compared with stand
germination and field emergence tests. From this study we can draw, the following conclusions: the
tetrazolium 1-3 and eletrical conductivity tests are efficient for the obtention of quick and usable information
on programs of quality control of soybean seeds. This would make easy the identification of seed lots with
different levels of quality and the potential of seedling emergence in the field.
