PRELIMINARY STUDY ON THE GERMINATION CAPACITY OF SOME Phyllanthus SPECIES (EUPHORBIACEAE)
EDVAL DE OLIVEIRA, SILVIA VENTURI E AUREA MARIA RANDI
Heteromorphy is present in Phyllanthus tenellus Roxb., P. niruri L., P. stipulatus
(Raf.) Webster, P. fraternus Webster, P. caroliniensis Walter e P. urinaria L.Two kinds of seeds were observed
in these species: brown and yellow. The brown seeds of P. tenellus and P. niruri are heavier than yellow
seeds. Yellow seeds are not able to germinate. The maximum germination at laboratory conditions was
reached after three to eight weeks for all species analysed. The storage of P. tenellus seeds around 10oC
was the most convenient to keep seed viability.
