Caroba fruits from Brasília and Anápolis were separeted in two groups: fruits that start ripping in the field and unriped fruits from field, that are completely ripen later in laboratory. Seeds from these fruits were separeted in three groups: without selection, with only a darked border and totally clear. The seeds were evaluated for seed borne fungi using the following methodo: blotter test and potato-dextrose-agar medium. The physiologic quality of seeds were evaluated by germination tests in greenhouse and laboratory condition, and viability using the
tetrazolium test. In health analysis was found the following fungi: Phomopsis sp., Lasiodiplodia theobromae, Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, Aspergillus sp., Fusarium sp. and Penicillium sp. The highest incidence of Phomopsis sp. was obtained in the seeds with a darkened border. In the three groups studied the incidence of L. theobrome was highest on seeds incubated by blotter test. The seed germination of caroba was not influenced by the fruit maturation (field or laboratory) neither by the substrat utilized (rolled towel or soil), but it was influenced by its degree of darkness.
