VIGOR TESTS ON PHYSIOLOGICAL QUALITY EVALUATION OF TOMATO SEEDS

ANGELICA BROD RODO, MARIA ÂNGELA ANDRÉ TILLMANN E FRANCISCO AMARAL VILLELA

Tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum (L.) Karsten) seeds of IAC and Kada cultivars, each one
represented by four lots, were evaluated with the purpose of studying the efficiency of different vigor tests on
physiological quality evaluation of this kind of tomato seeds, through the correlation with seedling emergency in
greenhouse and with the vigorous seedlings production. The evaluations were done by germination, seedlings vigor
classification, cold without soil, accelerated aging, controlled deterioration, electrical conductivity, seedlings emergency
in greenhouse and vigorous seedlings production tests. It was concluded that the separation of the lots in terms of
vigor varies according to the test used and cultivars. For cv. IAC, the tests that indicate the best separation of the
lots in terms of vigor are: cold without soil and electrical conductivity and for cv. Kada: accelerated aging, controlled
deterioration and electrical conductivity.
