The objective of this research was to evaluate the efficiency of methods to dormancy
overcoming in rice seeds, cultivar Franciscano, GA 3882 and INCA, in order to obtain germination
acceleration. Seeds were submited to different treatments: control; germination test immediately after
harvesting and all three storage month, until 12 month; chemical with KNO3, GA3, H2O2, H2So4, HCL,
NaCLO and HNO3; thermical with immersion in water at 100C and pre-freezing; accelerated ageing with
100% relative humidity and 43 C for 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours and 46 C for 72 hours and three storage
month; the biotest with lettuce seeds were overcomed to detect the presence of inhibitors. The experimental
design was a completely randomized wide with four replications. The results allowed to conclude
that the seeds does not present restriction to the entry of water; storage and accelerated ageing after
three storage month were the best treatments sor overcoming rice seeds dormancy and the chemical
treatments determinated great oscillations in the germination results.
